Web 2.0 Technologies in Language Teaching and Learning
 
Overview:

This is a one-week-intensive course combining theory with a strong hands-on focus designed to provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Explore the use of Web 2.0 technologies in language learning from a theoretical perspective.
  • Learn how to produce materials and learning tools using Web 2.0 technologies.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge and skills to incorporate the following - in a principled way - into their practice as teachers:

  • Record, edit and set up audioblogging and podcasts.
  • Set up and make use of blogs and Wikis.
  • Produce and make use of video.
  • Set up tasks involving mobile learning.
  • Make use of a Virtual Learning Environment.
Course organisation:

The mornings will be spent exploring the pedagogical uses and implications of Web 2.0 technologies.

The afternoons will consist of supported, hands-on sessions where participants will be required to produce pedagogical materials using the different technologies covered in this course.

All sessions will be run by the LWW – CETL Teacher Trainers and Multi-media developers.

Where: The LWW-CETL Language Space, UCL

When: June 15 th – 19 th

Times: 10h – 13h / 14h-17h

Cost: £60 per day or £150 for 3 days or £200 for the week - Costs include lunch - 30% discount for SOAS and UCL staff.

Participants:

This course is open to all professionals involved in the area of language teaching. There is no need for participants to have prior knowledge of the topics covered in this course, however, participants will be expected to have basic computer skills including basic notions of word-processing and PowerPoint applications.
