6.2 - How cases work

Given below is the list of cases (known as a paradigm) for feminine nouns of the hard type.

Case	Form of noun (with ending highlighted)	Use in a sentence
Nominative	Україна -а	Україна – велика країна. Ukraine is a large country.
Genitive	України -и	Ми – України доньки й сини. “We are the sons and daughters of Ukraine”. (from the popular song of the Orange Revolution)
Dative	Україні -і	Чи ЄС готовий дати Україні перспективу членства? Is the EU prepared to give (to) Ukraine the prospect of membership?
Accusative	Україну -у	Україну чекають нові проблеми. New problems await Ukraine.
Instrumental	Україною -ою	Єврокомісія починає переговори з Україною. The European Commission is beginning talks with Ukraine.
Locative	Україні -і	Цей сайт створений посольством США в Україні. This website has been created by the US Embassy in Ukraine.
Vocative	Україно -о	Це – політична партія «Вперед, Україно!». This is the “Forward, (o) Ukraine!” political party.
